Services At The UnChurch & Claiming America
Last Thursday I had the wonderful
opportunity to share about Native Ministry
at a local home fellowship called the "The
UnChurch". The meeting is facilitated by a
talented, warm hearted gentleman, Terry
Brick. We brought our pow-wow drum and
enjoyed an awesome night of worship NdN
style. This is the first time since
Convocation of Eagles that I have felt the
overwhelming freedom and fullness of worship
that comes with being able to wear regalia,
beat the drum, dance and sing in a Native
way during a Church meeting.
In addition, I was able to share about some
of the issues regarding our Native people
and the Contemporary mainstream Christian
church. Everone was so open and receptive.
We ended the night with a time of discussion
and prayer, specifically regarding the
building of cross-cultural relationships to
further the work of the Lord.
Although many people know Terry from his
youth oriented radio program Vox Rox or his
skills as a worship team leader, I am
getting to know Terry because of a new
project he is working on. Terry is directing
a drama production called "Claiming America"
which will be going on tour in 2005. Terry's
heart is to learn the proper protocol to
honor our Native people and partner with us
in taking "Claiming America" across Turtle
Island.
November - Whew - What A Month!
Where do I begin?? November was a time of
intraspection, intercession and change.
First, we found out that David's business
was experiencing some financial challenges.
As is expected, the initial information and
following steps of re-organization and
problem solving caused quite a stir for a
few weeks. Thank you all for your prayers.
Second, we came to another place of prayer
and seeking of the Lord regarding our
ministry partnerships. After several weeks
of meeting with board members, advisors and
trusted friends and prayer warriors, we
decided to withdraw our membership from the
umbrella organization that served as our
ministerial covering and financial advocate
with the IRS. So for the time being I am not
a licensed or ordained minister and I do not
have the 501(c)3. We are waiting on the Lord
about these two matters - specifically - how
and where do we go from here.
The work as a Chaplain, both with the
hospital and the local law enforcement
agencies has been onhold for nearly a year
now. Please pray regarding this place of
ministry, too.
The 10 week Healing Circle Bible study just
concluded. This was our third time of
facilitating this study. It was a wonderful
time of fellowship. Several people are
asking when we will doing it again and we
are looking at possible starting again in
the early part of 2005.
Then the BIG event. I turned 39 years old on
November 24!! Yikes. Now I am in the count
down to 40!!
If that was not enough, we also spent a week
in very focused prayer regarding the
possibility of taking in two other children
on a permanent basis. This was a bittersweet
time. Good because Dave and I were talking
about deep issues on a regular basis. Sad
because of the situation of the children.
After spending a week in prayer and
searching, we believed the Lord was saying
"No" and we agreed not to take the children.
Please ... please ... continue to pray for
these little ones and their family. They are
all very dear to us.
The month ended with the loss of the mother
of a dear friend of mine. Leslie's mom
crossed over during the night in a sweet
sleep. The next day she was supposed to be
moved from a care center into an apartment.
Instead she went straight from the care
center into GLORY! Praise the Lord. Please
pray for my friend Leslie Allen and her
family as they continue seek the Lord's
comfort and peace.
Washington DC Trip
Well, Leslie Toman, Sara Cooper and I had a
good time in Washington DC. Thank you so
much for your prayers regarding this trip.
We went at the invitation of He Knows My
Name, a ministry to orphans and widows with
a unique calling to lift of the name of
Jehovah where ever they go. On this trip, we
were to raise the Yahovah Nissi banner in a
procession accompanying the Judge Roy Moore
Ten Commandments Monument to the National
Mall in Washington DC. This was at the same
time as the America For Jesus Rally.
In the weeks following our return from the
trip, I have shared in more detail through
the radio program and email digests of
Across Turtle Island. Many of you have
probably either heard or read through those
reports. If you, I recommend you visit the
archives at
http://AcrossTurtleIsland.injesus.com .
One of the things I have not formally
mentioned yet is that I had the opportunity
to meet with several leaders of national and
international prayer ministries regarding a
future coalition of indigenous prayer
networks. We had an introductory meeting at
the National Mall that I believe was good.
Please be in prayer regarding the coalition
of indigenous prayer networks, Pastor Miguel
Dubal who is the visionary in this project
and regarding our role as First Nations
Monday.
